A case of skull trephination from late Imperial Rome

Abstract


A skull located in the church of Alberona (Foggia) belonged to an adult male (about 40 years old) shows that the subject underwent a cranial trephination in life, and survived, to judge from the traces of osseous healing observable along the edges of the lesion.
